For a start if you are a First Home Buyer you may qualify for the Government’s $10,000 First Home Owner’s Grant (FHOG). You can’t get it for an established home so you’re $10,000 ahead already.
Plus there’s no Stamp Duty payable on vacant land so again you’ll be thousands in front. There are also other concessions for First Home Owners and you might qualify for a ‘Keystart’ loan which can help even more with your repayments. Building a new home certainly seems to make good financial sense to me but there are a bunch of other reasons why I reckon it’s better building a new home.
You’re not going to inherit other people’s problems with a new home. Invariably if you buy an existing home it will need some renovations to get it looking the way you want.

Go wild with bright colours, cartoon wallpaper – you can do whatever you want and I’ve seen a few crazy ideas in my time.
That’s the fun of having your own home. No rent inspections. No rules. It’s the start of a wonderful adventure when you move into a home built just for you.
